Mark Ulackman (or Blackburn) and son of Mountain Home were cross ing the track at the foot of the above mentioned bill ,when the toain was struck by the Chautauqua local train from Portland, which killed the father and Injured the son on tho heai and hack, and killed one hors.iand mained the other, so that It had to be shot, The srn who is about 20 may recover. Dr. Matson, of Albany, has received instructions to examine all trainmen and men employed around stations on the Southern Pacific Company' lines between Oregon City and Roseburg on tiie main line. David Kirachner of Portland was poisoned last week by drinking bottled Wilhoit water. It is though that the bottle bad been ''doctored" by some one as this is the first case of poisoniiu from drinking this water. About G o'clock Monday evening lire broke out in the warehouse to the rear ol the Red Front store and next to Episcopal church. The fire was soon under contiol, with but a few. hundred dollars loss, fully covered by insurance Ralph, the son oi Caleb Cross, whs quite severely injured by a runaway on Friday Inst. He was driving along when one of the bits bloke which caused the team to run, throwing Ralph between the bed and the wheels so he could not get out until the horses were stopped. L. Friedrick's tailor shop and Wile hart's barber shop will temporarily move from their present quarters while the new brick is being built, which will he three fronts wide instead of two as first intended. Wilehart's shop will occupy one-half of thetbuilding formerly ocupied by Wilson & Cooke, While putting on a belt in the W. P. & P. Co's Mill on Sunday, J. C. Keller slipped from one of the cone pulleys and fell a distance of 18 or 20 feet. He struck a narrow platform which partially broke his fall. Dr. Sommer says there is no bones broken, but, that his body is partially paralyed and that he will be obliged to lay quiet for some time. Sheriff Maddock will hold the tax roll open for the payment of taxes as long as possible The latest date that taxes can be paid without costs is August 15th. As the court has ordered the levies to be mude the sale will take on the last day allowed the sheriff by law, viz: September 2-Uh 0u August 15h the executions will be posted and costs w ill be added thereafter.
