TEEMS IP SA1LE WM, BE CASH OK APPKOVEW NOTES IDUE JAW. 10 INTEREST. Let bo one think for a moment that because this is a Special Sale and at an unheard of price, that only the poor lots will be sold and the best reserved. This Great Scheme is simply one plan of advertising GLADSTONE and distributing the lots as widely as possible over Oregon, and in so doing we have actually selected the Creme de la Creme Of all the Lots in GLADSTONE, averaging four to the Block. At least 180 of these Lots are ENTIRELY CLEAR and READT TO BUILD UPON. A few Very Choice Lots with some few Oak and Fir Trees for Shade have purposely been selected near and some fronting on Gladstone Park. The citizens of Oregon City will only be permitted to purchase 50 of these Lots; outside parties in Clackamas County 50, and purchasers outside of the County 100. Not more than two Lots will be sold to the same party and single Corner Lots will not be sold. Applications by mail will be received and in every case the very best unsold Lots will be selected. The final payments can be arranged before the end of the 30 Days. 36 ELEGANT ELECTRIC CARS LEAVE GLADSTONE FOR OREGON CITY EVERY DAY, AND 23 CARS RUN TO PORTLAND. Fare to Oregon City is 2 Cents TO ACTUAL RESIDENTS, AND : 12 Cents to Portland. YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO WALK UP THE BLUFF AT OREGON CITY FOR THE PRICE OF A FARE TO GLADSTONE Mayor Straight, of Oregon City, Says: "GLADSTONE can't be beat for a suburb residence location. I consider Gladstone property a good investment. The location is extremely healthy and easy of access." Rev. Gilman Parker, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Oregon City, Says: "After 18 months' residence in GLADSTONE I am thoroughly convinced of its' desirableness as a place for a home. Its many points of excellence make it highly preferable to any" place between Oregon City and Portland. It has natural fitness, with its contour of hills; its magnificent park; its crystal river; its healthfulness; its good water and fresh air; its freedom from city noise; its electric cars and cheap fare, which are all points of very great advantage and pleasure." But why multiply words? Every school boy in Clackamas County and in Portland knows all about GLADSTONE, and Tens of Thousands of people have visited it during the last two years and have been Charmed with the Beauty of the Situation. Nothing need be said of Oregon City, with its Wonderful Manufacturing Establishments and thousands of operatives. Millions of money have been poured into the development of the Great Water Power and Millions More are coming; Real Estate is therefor better than the Bank of England Notes or Government Bonds. I MAKE IN INAUGURATING THIS GRAND ADVERTISING SALE, TWO GUARANTEES: 1st. THAT EVERYTHING SHALL BE ON THE DEAD SQUARE. 2r.l THAT IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED IN 30 DAYS AFTER THE SALE, OR UPON FIRST EXAMINATION OF LOTS, IF PURCHASED FROM ABROAD, YOUR MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED. ' OUEUON CITY, SEPT. 28, 1894. THg BIO FIRE. The fire In Portland on Sunday was the largest ever witnessed in the history of the city. The fire started in the coal bunkors on the east side and swept everything in its track, Including the big elevator, dock, trackage, cars, etc The loss appears to be about as follows. nearly all of which was covered by in' surance : PaciGc Coast elevator $210,000 AVheat In elevator 130,000 Coal-bunkers 35,000 Coal in same 12,500 Warehouse 35,000 Contents 20,000 Wharves 150,000 Freight cars 20,000 Wheat in cars 7,000 Electrical machinery 50.000 Willamette Chief 7,500 Stevedores' plant 2,500 Miscellaneous 20,000 Total $099,500 The elevator, coal-bunkers, wharves and warehouse will no doubt be rebuilt Immediately. . Tug abolition of the duties on wool has helped our manufacturers In several ways, and tbe Increasing prosperity of the manufacturers must necessarily react to the benefit of the domestic growers. The passage of the new tariff law sent up the price of foreign wool all over the world. That meant that while our manufacturers could get their Itn ported wool cheaper than before, not having to pay duties upon it, their for eign competitors would have to pay more than ever. Thus the pressure of competition was reduced in two di rections. This improvement in the relative position of the American mills will enable tbem for the first time to invade the foreign markets, and when tbey do that the scale of their operations will be to expanded that tbe demand for American labor and American wool will necessarily Increase. Till praise that President Cleveland received from tbe lips of Senator Oil I, in his speech at the state convention of the Sew York democracy, gives ample assurance that the Empire State is united and offers solid front to the republican foe. Mew York is a demo cratic State, pays thc versatile senator. Tri leading populists of Lincoln county are raying that all the gold in the world may be sunk into tbe ocean. If they get chance to sink it probably tbey will be no less anxious to seize all tbey can than Mrs. leue and Gov. Lewelliruj of Kansas. Some curious facts may be gleaned trUmpt at JixamtfUattvlan ut lilt) Inter-State Commerce Commission for the year ending June 30th, 18 93, which has just been published. It shows, among other things, that on the date mentioned there were 170,401 07 miles of railway in the United State", an in crease of about five thousand miles dur ing the year, or 2.80 per cent. The increase was greatest, as might be ex pected, in newly-settled states like Washington, where 550 miles were added, and Montana, whore there was an increase of 410 miles. It is a little surprising, however, to find West Y ir ginia coming third with an increase of 305 miles, while, on the other hand, a decrease of nineteen and one-hnlf miles In Oregon is equally surprising. As to the proportion between railway mileage and population, Nevada leads, with 193 miles to each 10,000 inhabitants, while outside the District of Columbia, Rhode Island has the smallest, there being but a fraction over b!x miles to each 10,000 inhabitants. As to mileage In propjr tlon to area, New Jersey leads with nearly 29 miles of road per 100 square miles of territory, while Nevada brings up the rear with a fraction of a mile, .85. Ohkoon City is lively and full of business in comparison with Sulutn, Albany and Corvullis, which seem half asleep. The complaint bus been mado so bug and so often in those towns that money is scarce that the complaint has become slalo by repetition, but it will not cease until they manufacture more and send less of their earnings to tli e surfeited Yaukeelund for the thousan d and one things they cunsumo. Oregon will never become permanently pros perous until it becomes a manufacturing no less than an agricultural state. Company F. Orders. The following orders were issued on September 24th : 1.
