Next day Mrs. Bentley and Vanwagner left and came to Portland Wednesday night a police officer saw them go into the Raymond lodging house on First s' reel, near Clay, but since no trace of them has been found. Ed Shaw, the nigh.walch, heard a noise in Mr. Flannagun's saloon. On inspection of the premises, he observed that a pane was brosen in the side door, and that all the doors were fatten ed. He determined to have a thorough Investigation. He placed two men who happened to be near on guard outside. and went after Mr. Flannagan ut home Id bed. The latter opened the door, when it was found that the noise had been produced by the small dog locked in the saloon who had rattled among the empty cigar boxes lying in a corner on the floor. Officer Shaw is determined to do his whole duty. A Campaigm Lib. Ely C. Maddock promised to conduct a clean campaign no mud.
