Farmers are grinning so much tin. I their wisdom teeth show. A few das of pleasant weather causes them to go nearly wild. Almost 40 scholars were enrolled at the beginning of the school term Mon day last. P. A. liaker called upon the school and delivered an address, in which he spoke of the good points of the teacher, Mr. Rowton, and praised the put lis, telling them how much better on they are than the scholars ol a few- years past, when we could afford hut two or three months school in a year instead of nine or ten. When he had finished his speech the pupils telt very much refreshed and were ready to settle down to work. Misses Lizzie and Katie bhatx were very much surprised last Monday night by the young people moving in on them in a body to spend the evening. The surprise was gotten up for Miss Katie, who intends to leave for Portland soon. The crowd gathered at the postnrlice and going from there all arrived togeth er, thus allaying all suspicion of their intentions until they arrived at their destination. The evening was spent very pleasantly in playing games, sing ing and chatting until 10 o clock when fruit and Adam's ale were passed. Fruit eing scarce. It was thought by some to be "way up," in fact, superior to cake and pie. About 11 o'clock the gather ing broke up and the guests wended their weary way homeward. Those present were: Misses Baibara Weolfle. Martha Saner, Ollie and Agnes Gage: Messrs. Taff Reichle, A. Sauer, Wm, Yoster. G. Reutter, J. HolT, J .O Gage, David Weolfle and V. E. Rowton. L. .
