I They estimate the present value j of their properties in the state at ' something more than thirteen mil-1 Bon dollars, and following the ex ample of the Vailroads are asking ' for a "fair" return on their estimat ed valuation. i Not one man in twenty today in ' business would protest against a ' guaranteed net return of 8 percent eo his investment, and the average man would like to have the state or federal government get behind their, earnings to that extent. ( The entire move is ont of tnne ' with the present trend of things. A readjustment is on, and salaries, ma- , terials and all other commodities! that these people buy will no doubt a greatly reduced during the next three or four months. Of course the entire matter is up to the public service commission, and their decision will be satisfac tory to the people, bat it is not pro table that they will give the propo sition serious consideration. The proposed increase on country telephones in this district would be tram 11.50 per month to 12.50, and n business lines, single party lines, from $3.75 per month to $6.25 per month. A few months ago the people Blight have been agreeable to such in increase without much protest, t;t today it seems that the move is r.t of keeping with the trend of things, and one that the telephone frople would do well to forget. . , EVERY ACTOMOBILIST KXOAV3 That tSsi people with him on the trip are going to let him pay for the means. That the most nervous lady In the party will Insist upon sitting In the front seat with him to call his stten- ' tlon to obstacles in the road. ,N That the squeaks and rattles in the car will be mentioned first by the guests and somebody will say: "That's the, way with these cheap ars. That he will be allowed to carry the baskets to the picknicking place and go two miles for the water. That if he suffers a break twenty even miles from home his guests will catch the trolley for two and Jeave him stand guard over his au tomoble until the mechanlcan cornea.
