ARMY MENTAL TEST HIGH Eleven Per Cent ef Men Are Found Qualified for Officer. Washington. Eleven per cent of the 1,180,000 enlisted men of the army sub jected to psychological teat were wind to be qualified mentally te be som officer, while more than 26 per tent of the men examined were rated at above average intelligence. ighty thre per cent of the officer to whom th test were applied met the requi site requirements of the test, said a statement issued by the war depart ment, giving for the first tim the lata compiled by the division of psy chology of the medical department Lest than one-half ef 1 per cent of the men were recommended for dis charge at mentally deficient One hundrod and eighty-three of our people participated in the com munity sulphur shipments, but this 1 evidently not the entire number of farmers who desire to use sulphur. Judging from the number of letters we are receiving at this office, urging us to make another shipment After Ktvinc the matter careful considers tion. we have decided to open another order for at least one carload. We have the assurance of the manufac turers that we will get the same price as formerly, provided we can asaejn ble a 60.000 pound order. As we have previously advlted you, this 1 a special price that ha been made to u In order to encourage the use of sulnhur tor fertilising purposes. There is no longer any question concerning the value of the fertiliser, We have now carefully tabulated nine of the fertiliser trials and in every instance sulphur ha given remark able yields. Perhaps the best single demonstration i that which ha just completed its second year on the M. E. Lande ranch at Redmond. On the plot to which susjhur was applied two year ago the total yield of hay this year amounted to 4.3 ton per acre, as compared with the yield of 1.87 ton on the acre check plot This order will be handled In the same manner as the previous orders and every farmer contemplating the use of sulphur during the next two or three years ts urged to take part In this shipment. This Is the third time we have tried to secure sulphur for everyone desiring the same, but there have always been a few whose order arrived too late to take part in either of the other shipments. This will positively be the last com munity carload of aulphur which we will order this year, as it ts doubtful tt there will be enough farmers left in the county needing sulphur to make up the required amount for a carload. As far as it is known now, this order will close December 18th. so order must be received in the of fice of the County Agent previous to that date. Further information on this sub ject can be had by writing the County Agricultural Agent at Redmond. R. A. WARD, Agent. w. s. s.
