This is just the same as for the past year and the slight in crease in the valuation of property in the county will increase the total amount raised somewhat. The court plans to raise a total of $220,805 for all county purposes. To this amount and to the mil lage also will be added the state tax which has not been computed yet. This will be the same or practically the same as last year. The amount ot state tax for 1916 was $27,000. The 26 mills are divided into the various funds as follows: High cchool, 21 mills; Public School, 4 mills; County Library, one-twen tieth of one mill; Rodent Rounty, six-tenths of one mill; General Fund, 18 and seventeen-twentieths mills. To the above figures will be add ed the SDecial city or school and road district taxes in each district j where the property is situated. I Considerable pruning of the budget took place and some of the ifunds materially reduced to hold ;themillage to the limit fixed by j the six per cent increase law which i was voted in November. For example, the amount to be raised Jto eliminate the estimated floating debt of about $45,000 ; was reduced to $25,000, the item of $1000 for rebate of taxes was elimi nated and SiO, 000 for land classi i fication was eliminated entirely. The indigent fund was reduced from $7,000 to $2,000 and the rodent bounty fund was cut from , $50,000 to $5,000. The decrease in the last men tioned fund caused a lot of figuring on the part of the court. They j are obliged to pay the bounty and ! wish to pay it, of course, for it was ! demanded by the vote of the I people, yet the same people at the same election limited the amount ! of taxes, which the court felt made it impossible for them to levy funds sufficient to pay the bounty war j rants that would be presented, j Every fund was pruned as much as the court considered it would stand, and then the remaining mil lage was placed in the rodent ; bounty fund which will raise but ! the $5,000 mentioned above. ! The court realizes that this will I be far too small a fund to meet ithe situation and is considering the matter. They will meet again on December 19, and decide just what to do to meet the situation. mi m 7 the national joy smoke You've heard many an earful about the Prince Albert patented process that cuts out bite and parch and lets you smoke your fill without a comeback!
