i w umssia Bud Fisher jumped the old-time rut when he invented Jeff and Mutt. For years, with that amusing pair, he's chased away the people's care, and made them laugh and throw their hats, and cackle till they broke their slats. The tired, the sad, the weak, the worn, have laughed with Bud, and ceased to mourn; the lame, the halt, the blind, the deaf, have whooped with glee o'er Mutt and Jeff. Where does he find the joyous jests which break the WJ I Duttons irom our vests t xou a ffj J think the fount would have to fail, Am but never once has he been stale. When he sits down to hatch a plot in which his heroes will be caught, he lights his pipe, and soon a joke emerges from Tuxedo smoke. He swears by "Tux" and so will you. There is never anv accumula tion of grain in front of the cutter bar. No matter how badly the grain is down, the McCormick binder picks it up and binds it all. S. are : to have military training. Thei school board after making this de-j cision by unanimous vote, attended j the high school assembly where strong talks were, made regarding' the plans for and the benefits of this type of training. Messrs Brink and Upton were also present and addressed the student body on facts which each have had occasion to study. The arms and uniforms will be fur nished by the federal government while members of the faculty will oversee the training. An army officer may be had for inspection from time to time. It is not the object of the board to encourage a military spirit, but is a plan to enforce a rigid training for which the boys will receive credits. The scheme is excellent in its motive and was heartily en dorsed by the students. Supt.
