Plans are being made at The Dalles to build a new road of 25 miles from Ward's Mill, 17 miles southwest of Dufur, to Government Camp. This highway, If built, would Bhorten the proposed "loop" road around Mount Hood from Portland by 30 miles. At the same time It would afford the tour ist a wonderful scenic route, one of the best In this part of the state. S. Benson, Portland philanthropist and millionaire lumberman gave $100, Otro to School District No. 1 tor the purpose of building the first unit of the trades school building on the site recently purchased In East Portland. The only restriction attached to the gift Is the condition that the school district contract to spend an equal amount during the' year 191$ In the construction of the second unit of the same building.
