ELKINS Strong Artesian Flow Shumias Have an Struck in Prineville Excellent Meeting E. Waggoner & Co., the well drill ers, have struck a strong artesian flow of Boft water on the premises of J. L. Wonderly on the north side. The drill was sent down 160 feet. After passing through 14 feet of surface gravel, 40 feet of volcanic sand was encountered, then 50 feet of quicksand, the rest of the dis tance was through blue clay. A 4i inch pipe was put down. Mr. Wag goner believes that if the water is confined it will rise 10 feet above ground. The present pipe is four feet above the surface. An addi tional six feet will be added and then capped. The water has a slight taste of iron when it comes from the ground, but if allowed to stand for a time is not noticeable. The water is prac tically the same as that obtained at the artesian flows of Slayton and "Willirms farther down the valley. Declamatory Contest At M. The picture attraction will be the ninth episode of "The Perils of Pauline." Again we witness f series of thrilling incidents and acci dents in the attempts of the con spirators to do away with Pauline We see Pauline become a moving picture actress, taking the part of an angel in "Paradise Lost." In this role she is attacked by a devil of the company, and escapes from the island whereon the play is being staged by the timely arrival of an aviator with his hydroplane. Even then she is not safe, for while flying the plane is set afire by an ignited cigarette carelessly thrown away by the aviator who, coward at least, seizes the only parachute and leaps, leaving Pauline to her fate, She is able to right the plane and lands safely, but not so fortun ate is the aviator, who is seen dropping from the clouds and lands in front of a fast moving train. , For thrills this installment fur nishes about the most ever crowded into two reels of film.
