It has money in the treasury. This being true, it may be infered that a set of officials in th county court of that county deserves re-election. County oflicials appeal to intelli gent men, not because of the parti t-ular brand they receive from polit ical conventions, but by their nets. Everyone, excepting the narrow partisan, cares more for the re.uilU than for the name of the party to which an officer may be attached. Hence it is that this paper observes the deserving char acter of the men who have suc cessfully carried Crook out of debt. This paper knows not the name of one of these Crook county officials. It merely draws conclusions from the excellent record they have made It is a suggestion to officials of all counties. Umatilla would like to join the select company of counties that have obeyed the .Scriptural injunction to "owe no man." The people will g ladly give prase to its officials when they accomplisn what has been accomplished in Crook and Harney counties, and accord to them the tribute of re election to the officers they are now filling. This is a big county and a rich county, and it need remain in debt not much longer. Proper action by the county court will wipe, out the obligations that now rest against it. This action will be along two lines-rigid re trenchment in expenditures, and i mposition of sufficient tax rate to enable the paying of the county's debt.-Pendleton E-0.-(Dem.) What difference does it make who first said, "There is glory enough for us all." It wasn't true. Mr Wellington and Mr Lentz will soon meet and hold a heart to heart talk on "Things I wish I hadn't said." We prefer to call him "Teddy," rot because we have any desire of being disrespectful, but because we love and admire him. Nicknames do no harm when they are not in tended to do so. The "Little Cor poral" wag proud of his, and we bilieve "Teddy" is the same. - Suppose the tariff Iocs enable a few articles to be sold a thade cheaper abroad than at home, what of it? Is jt not better for us to pay a little more for what we buy than to have a lot of unem ployed labor on our hands? This is the question in a nut shell.
