I' litor I'lineviile Journal : Pursuant to proivise I write you brii-lly of my trip. Leaving Prine vi'Ie on August 20, bidding adieu to home and friends, severing roy connection with all who I held near and dear to me, leaving thr scenes of my childhood and their many happy remembrances, per haps never to return any more, 1 boarded the stage bound for Ma nilla, that far off land to meet my husband who 1 have not sen for years. My trip on the stage to shaniko was one of pleasure, yet still one of sadness, as I looked up on familiar scenes perhaps for the last time. We passed many hap py homes where lived prosperous -ittlers, as well as the fanioui r.aldwiu Sheep .t Land Co's ranch, where the best and finest blooded sluep in America are raised. The snow clad ptaks in the Cascade range showed up clearer it seemtd to me this afternoon, than eTer be fore and the farms along the road appeared prettier than ever I saw them, but perhaps it was my imagination only. Arriving at l.aniko at midnight I retired to rest, and at S o'clock next morn inr boarded the cars bound for I'.igcs, there to change for Portland. In passing through Sherman coun ty, we saw immense fields of grain yellow with their golden harvest r i ly to be girnered. After board ii:g the O. U k N. train at Higg we passed along down the Colum ii.i whose scener.y cannot be ex celled any wher?, and its beauty i holds the traveler's attention as be caes upon the mightv works of nature. j Indue time b reached Portland and immediately took the overland ' train for California, and night soon coming on saw but little of the s than country we passed through, until lone by morning light broke in the east and we were in Southern Oregon. rrrmrriTnriTrrriTovo q i Columbia Southern J.
