Jamas Newton Poindexter waa bern in Greeuleaf, Greene county, Illineia. December 5, 1823. Cross ed, the plains 1852. He was married March 1st, 1855, to Eliza E. McCord near Eugene, Or. In this family thero were ten children, four of whom are dead ; four sons and two daughters with tha wi.te survive him. In his faiher's fam ily there ware seven sons and two daughter j one daughter is yet liv ing. About five years sgo he bad a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. During these years be has been very patient and forbearing. always patient ana jovial to his friends as thay called 0 visit him. He wis a member ot the Baptist church in this city and dii d in its triumph of the faith in j which hs had lived. Haded at 7:30 P. M March 20, 1903, and was aged 73 years, 3 month and 15 days. Funeral was held in the Union church on Sundsy, March 22, 1903. at 2 P. M., conducted by Rev. II. C. Clark, pislor of M. E. church.
