Homewood, of Unity, was in the neighborhood the first of the week, looking after stock. Cecil Smith returned from Ontario Wednesday, after a brief visit with his parents. He purchased a fine 'addle horse while there. Misses Nannie Duncan and Mary Locey are visiting with relatives and friends in Ontario. Fred Locey went to Brogan first of the week on business. Frank Reed and wife spent several days in the neighborhood last week at the home of F. Smith. J. M. Tyler made a trip to Unity last of the week on business, return ing Monday. H. M. Rutherford, Ted Wilson, Will Quinn, E. O. VanBuren, Walter Mc- Garn, Bert Lawrence, Tute3 Tureman and Roscoe Welch attended the horse buyers sale last week at Hereford. J. N. Woodcock returned from Ba ker the last of the week. Ruthe?lrbrd Bros, made a business trip to Malheur Monday. C. Smith and Elmer Molthan are in the Westfall country riding after stock. Wm. Allen, of the Little Malheur river, left on Saturday's stage for a few days visit at the county seat and Ontario. Mrs. Arthur VanBuren, who has been in Ontario the past month, look ing after her interests, and having some dentistry work done, returned home Saturday. John Smith and family spent the week end at Scott Davis' home. Walter McGarn and Gus Lawrence made a trip to Brogan Saturday. A. W. Anthony left for the county seat Sunday to serve on the jury dur ing court, which is in session this week. F. W. Smith left for Baker by the way of Unity Monday, accompanied by II. C. Elms. They will each take a load of dressed hogs for the Baker market. Lloyd Weaver and wife were pre sented with an 8-pound girl Jan. 7th, mother and baby doing nicely. Francis Rose and W. T. Bunt left for Baker Monday with Mr. Rose's automobile, which they will have re paired, it having been out of running order for over a year. H. M. Rutherford and Herbert Lawrence have been in the Bridge port community riding after stock. Several sleigh loads of jolly young folks left for Malheur Friday evening with the intention of enjoying a bas ket ball game and dance afterward, but on their late arrival they found all the Malheur ball players in slum ber, so they were not to be disap pointed, and there being a sufficient number of players from Ironside, an interesting game was played between the home men. Mrs. Annabel Anthony and son Charles left on Tuesday's stage for Ontario, en route to Portland. They will spend a few days with friends in Ontario before completing their jour ney. They expect to spend some time in Portland with relatives and friends. Earl VanBuren left for Baker the first of the week on business. lie will bring a load of freight for the Ironside store. Miss Ivy Wise has been ill the past week with a serious attack of La-grippe. George Horton went to Brogan Monday after a load of freight for Walter Hinton. Eighth grade examinations will be conducted at the school house this week. Arthur Young will take the complete set of questions, while a number in the sixth grade will take in physiology. Charlie Smith has been quite ill for several days with chicken pox. He is much better at this writing. Alvin VanBuren is now attending school after a week's absence. Anson Powell, who is feeding his stock at Bonita, came in on business Sunday. George Devenney and wife passed through enroute to Bumpter Monday, Mr. Devenney has property in Bump ter and a fw days ago a firebug touched hit houae, width was vacant, ami it was burned to the ground. JAMIESON ITEMS JAMIESON, Jan. 7, 191& Mr. and Mrs. Delton Fotheringham have returned to their home at Jamieson, after an extended visit to Spokane, Wash. ' This valley was visited by a nice large snow storm last week, and ev eryone has visions of large piles of jackrabbits lying around in this vi cinity, a big drive being planned by the people here. Mike Bartlett and M. D. Kelley motored to Vale Wednesday, return ing Thursday. Mrs. Avis Heitman returned to her home Thursday, after a visit to southern California points. Ben Fotheringham departed Wed nesday for an extended visit with friends and relatives in Spokane, Wash. Lee Harris, of Lower Willow, is visiting at the home of Hiram Dav is at Jamieson this week. A dance and general good time is reported to have taken place at the JamieBon hall Friday night. Another dance is reported at the Dunn home on Bully creek. John Brosnan, of Lower Willow, was a business caller at Jamieson Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Pope and son James were passengers to Ontario Tuesday. Frank Mulkey, our general store clerk, is attending court at Vale this week. John Norwood, the Jamieson ranch er, is attending court at Vale this week. Richard DeArmond was a business visitor at Jamieson Tuesday. The ranchers of this vicinity gath ered together a carload of fine hogs and shipped them to the Portland market this week, Claude Derrick accompanying the car. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cox are presid ing at the Jamieson store this week in the absence of Mr. Pope and Mr. Mulkey.
