Tour now. communities woro organized and tho six original communities great ly strengthened their membership and placed tholr organizations on a permanent basis. Marketing nnd DujltiK Tho Uurcau was concerned In a wool pool organlzod by tho Payette Coun ty Uurcau; It assisted In tho co-opor-atlvo shlpmont of ono carload each of lambs and hogs and two of cattlo, tho hogs and cattlo being partly owned by Payette county farmers. A potato growers' association was formed and much preliminary work dono on tho formation of an alfalfa growers' association. Three car loads of socd potatoes woro pur chased and distributed. Ono car load of potato sacks was purchasod co - oporatlvoly. Two community pools for binding twlno woro formed. Livestock Improvement Progresse Tho Huroau conducted a "Live stock Improvomont Tour" to arouse Intorest in tho keeping of moro and bottor livestock on tho farms. This tour wnB exceptionally well attended nnd wan tho start of a gunoral move ment of tho greatest economic Im partnnco to tho county. During tho last month of tho year two car loads of dairy cattlo woro secured by tho pooling of orders nnd tho purchnso from Wlllnmotto Valley farmors. Farm HeconI Wrk Ifcmo Tho Uurcau assisted offlcors of tho Irrigation, power usors In making a farm manngomont aurvoy of 02 Irrl gnted farms. Tlio data was of groat assistance to tho power usors In pre senting their caso In opposition to a proposed Increaso In powor rotes which would lmvo been ruinous to thorn, and It also nerved as a bails for determining cost of production for hay and othor farm products and affordod othor valuablo Information. A largo number of farm record books woro placod with tlio farmers, as well as crop rocord shoots, lu preparation for fitrthor survoys. No systematic attempt had boon mado within rocont yoar to destroy any of these pests, The flold woh a promising one tor oper ations. During January and Fobru ary n poisoning campaign, begun by tho County Court In Docombor, at Vale, was pushed to all parts of tho county, tho assistance of two ropro sontatlvos of tho nialoRlcal Survey bolng omployod. This work resulted lu tho destruction of groat numbers of rabbits. It wna brought to a closo by weathor conditions beforo com plete. Tho second pest to recolvo at tention was ground squlrrols, which are particularly serious In tho more romoto sections. Approximately four tons of poison wero distributed This work was highly satisfactory wherever entered Into In an organ ized way, A eerlos of pocket gopher poisoning demonstrations were glvon during tho spring in tho communities whoro those posts oro most serious This was done In response to domand for a campaign against tho post, tho Ilureau having brought the Compul sory Rodent Control law to bear on pocket gophers. Throughout tho summor, gopher poison was kopt on hand In tho various communities for tho benoflt of those who would use It. In response to a demand for actlvo control work In tho Nyssa commun ity, tho gophers on two forms woro troated during the summor. During the fall, arrangements woro mado treating a largo area In tho Malheur Valloy, which tho Vale Ilureau had desired be glvon attention. In all, dbout 16,000 acres of land woro cov- erod by crows working with poison. Attention was also glvon to crows during tho year. Docauso of the great number of these birds to deal with, tho importance of getting nn orrectivo pan was recognueu from the Btart. Experimental work dono in January and Fohruary did not prove satisfactory, the birds be coming wary of the bait beforo many had been killed. Continuation or theso experiments which wero car ried on by representatives of tho Biological Survey co-operating with tho Uureau, during the summer re sulted In a bait which gtrve more promise. Further laboratory and field work dono by Mr, E. R. Kalra bac, has Improved this bait. No at tempt has yet been made, however, to uso it extensively. i . " Tho Hureau also Intorestod Itself In tho control of coyotes and cnrrlod out a referendum on tho mnttor of mnklng tho payment of bounties op tional with tho county court, among Its members, tho result of which was favorahlo to tho discontinuance of tho bounty plan nnd tho sublstutlon of direct control measures. This matter was put forth In form by ro solution at the county meeting and legislative representatives so advised. A number of pests bnvo not yet re ceived nttentlon owing to lack of tlmo to hnndlo tho work. Women Tnko Pnrt Tho department of tho Hureau dealing with women's Interests did valuablo work In holplng to get branch libraries started In tho com munities and In Intcrcntng persons In tho community to make uso of tho books furnished through the County Library to theso branches. A series of canning demonstrations wcro hold nnd later a sories of demonstrations on tho construction of homc-mndo dress forms, Ho)H nnd Girls Artlve Very definite progress ' was mado by tho Club department of the Ilur eau. Thoro were 14 sowing clubs with 100 girls working; two cookery clubs and four Individuals or 23 girls working; four boys did potato club work; 9 boys did corn club work; 14 boys and girls raised plgsinl togothor thoro woro 104 children who onrollod for soma form of club work, nnd 160 of thorn sent In completed roports. A moro comploto roport of this work was given In tho Docombor Issuo of tho "Nows". Many Meeting Held The Uurcau hold 148 meetings during thq yoar, of which about half woro commlttoo meetings nnd tho rost gonornl community or county mcotlngs. A total of 3401 persons woro In attondnnco nt tlicso gather ings. Much business was transacted nnd acquaintanceship and oxchango of knowledge fostered. A total of 607 pornoiis called nt tho offices, of tho Hureau for assistance, of one kind or nnothor, and 107 persons rocolvod holp on their farms.
