Justice King's court was the scene of a lively hearing yesterday morn ing when Louvenla Brown and Hor ace Mayfleld, both colored, were brought up to face a serious charge Testimony during the hearing, brought out the fact that county authorities have had I detective op erating In Ontario for the past ten days, In an effort to apprehend vlo laters of the law. It was through the efforts of the detective that these two arrests were made. Judge King bound both over to the grand Jury, the man being held under liiOO ibond. and the woman under 1260 bond. I will be a candidate before the primaries for the Hepublican nomina tion for re-election, nut In deciding upon this course. I feel It my duty to advise my friends and Republicans generally of my district that I will be unable to devote either time or money to making a campaign for votes, either before the primary elec tion or the fall election, tf nominated. Since last election, my brother and I have entered Into n soniowhat exten sive stock raising enterprise, the suc cess of which, I feel, requires not only the industrious, constant at tention of both of us tor the next four years but, along with It, some close figuring along the lines of econ omy. I must, therefore, assure my friends that the suocess of this stock ranch enterprise Is the paramount Issue with me at present, for this Is the source of ltvlihood of my little family and myself. In other words, I follow ranching for a llvllhood, not politics, and expect to continue to do so. If It were otherwise, my exper ience in the two sessions of the Ore gon Legislature convinces me, I would now be farolng badly from a financial atandpoint. If anyone can come away from Salem with a bal ance to his credit out of a State Sen-1 ator's salary he will do better than I would hope to do. However. I will ask my friends to circulate my peti tions about the first of the year and If nominated and elected will pro mise to devote the necessary time and money to enable me to fulfill my duties as State Senator with credit to my party and district. I will al so be glad at all times to answer all questions by mall. My efforts, If elected, will be, In the main, along the same general lines as In the last two sessions. Yours truly, Lorlng V.
