Uglow and ----- Conner desire to carry the R epublican b a n ner. Uglow seem s to hold the edge. For sheriff, John W. Orr, ■Repub lican, and John G ranf, D em ocrat, will lock horns. The 2 Johns have been sheriff betw een them selves for a dozen years. For com m issioner, Clyde Beckett, R epublican, desires to succeed h im self but ha» a stro n g opponent in George Graves. A W est Salem m an is expected to accept the Demo cratic honor. For rep resentative, W. V. Fuller, R epublican, is alone in the field. COMMITTEE WILL SOON GET BUSY ON CITY CHARTER “As soon ns the Liberty Loan drive is out of file w ay," says Mayor Moore, “I will get th e com m ittee at work on the new city charter. The com m ittee, w hich is to consist of four councilm en and three citizens, 1 have alread y picked. I am very- sure th a t they will be pleased to receive suggestions from till citizens as to w h a t provisions th e c h a rte r should contain." The present city chapter is so obsolete an d conflicting w ith state laws th a t it will bo a b so lu te ly 'n e c essary- to am end it o r adopt a new one.
