A United Press International survey showed concern over the possibility of similar tragedies in other areas. Little Mark Douglas Draper. 24. was killed Saturday when he was attacked by a pack of killer strays and dragged about 75 yards be hind his home. The mangled body of the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug las C. Draper was found by a neighbor in the St. Louis suburb of Hazelwood. i . County Supervisor James H.J. McNary ordered an inquiry into the adequacy of the county's dog catching service. Ho said he also would seek a Health Department report on personnel and equip ment in the rabies control divi sion. "If more trucks and men are needed they will be obtained," McNary said. Other Danger Areas Elsewhere, Gerald Eddy, Mich igan conservation director, warned there was a good possibility that a killer dog- pack could, turn on humans in.' Michigan. He-said snarling packs of wild dogs roam many areas of Michigan. Police officials in Chicago said dangerous dog packs have been seen roving in some parts of the city despite local laws pro hibiting dogs from running loose. At Indianapolis, city and county police warned that any animal "running at large" will be picked up or destroyed, even if it has a license. The crackdown was prompted by the St. Louis slay ing. In other cities, particularly those with strict leash laws, officials discounted the possibility of stray dogs forming into vicious packs. Kill Stray Dogs Spokesmen at Los Angeles said they saw little chance of wild dog packs attacking humans due to strict leash laws and vigilant roundups of loose dogs. Hours after the mangled body of the. Draper boy was found a posse of 150 police and citizens roamed- the Hazelwood area armed with shot guns, riot guns, pistols and clubs, killing stray dogs on sight. All the dogs involved in the at tack on the boy were believed to tiave been killed. Police Chief Albert J. Talley said the killer dogs were part of two or three packs of strays roaming the partly-wooded suburb during'the last eight months. None of them wore tags identifying them with an owner. Nixon' Expected To Go On Ballot WASHINGTON (UPD Most po litical observers believe Vice Pres ident Richard M. Nixon will be on the ballot in the New Hampshire GOP presidential primary next March 8. ' Friends of Nixon said it is too early for Nixon to make any de cisions about entering 1960 presi dential primaries. Reliable . sources said the vice president will not change his im mediate plans as a result of Rep. Stuyvesant Wainwrighfs (R-N.Y.) statement that supporters of Nel son A. Rockefeller would enter the New York governor's name in the New Hampshire primary. ii But most political observers felt that in one way or another Nix on's name would be entered in the New Hampshire GOP preference race-, where President Eisenhower got his first big boost toward the 1952 Republican nomination. YANKEE REBELS TALLAHASSEE. Fla. UPI The Florida House passed a bill Friday providing fines of -up to $100 or 30, days in jail for de filing ."by word or act" the Con federate flag. The only dissenter was Rep. w. C. Herrell, a former resident of Battle Creek, Mich.
