As to the number of convicts now in
prison, the warden shows that during
the month, of August the population
dropped to 244, which is the lowest
recorded in "forty years. It is noted that
the crimes traceablo to liquor have fal
len off greatly, and number of in
mates is further reduced by the act of
tho last legislature which cut off ten
days of each month from a sentence
as a reward for good behavior.
