An ob servant fsrmer residing near Cen ab noted that the hard surface in tnat vi cinity was defective in spoU and re ported the fact to Governor Okott, who in turn brought it to the attention of the highway commission. As a re suit of conference and an iatestig tioa held yesterday afternoo.t, the Blakc-Compton company, who Bold the contract oa this unit, were ordered to suspend operations until a thorough in vestigation caa be made. And this means also that no warrants will be is sued to the company for the month of June. The Bluke-Couipton company entered a bid of $li.812 for this unit, specify ing a fivc-iuch surface of atphaltic concrete. It is alleged that the smfaee is no more than three inches thick in places, and that the mixture is sot prop erly compounded. The road iu question is a post road, one-half tho cost to be paid by the government. The state highway commission has recently celled for bids on a reinforced concrete bridge over Pass Creek on the Pacific highway, about 3 miles south of the Lano-Douglas county line.
