The Salvation Army "lads" and "lassies" were on the job every minute, operating canteens with Hun shells dropping all around them They made coffee and bak ed American Doughnuts and Apple Pies for the Doughboys almost in the trenches. The simplicity and sincerity of their service went straight to the hearts of American Soldiers and all America' They brought far-away home near to Our Boys. The Home Service Fund Campaign June 22 to June 30, under the direction of the Oregon State Elks Association GIVES US A CHANCE TO MAKE GOOD HERE AS THE SALVATION ARMY MADE GOOD OVERSEAS. None will be wasted. Believing that "A Man May Be Down But Never Out" they will use this money for the following ' purposes: ' " To Feed the Hungry; To Clothe the Ragged; To Shelter the Homeless; To Champion the Cause of the Weak; To Advise, Teach, and Aid the Unfortunate; To give a vast volume of Temporary Relief. To Reclaim Wayward Girls and Fallen Women ; To Assist Homeless, Jobless Men with work to become sclf Supporting; To Help Released Prisoners to get a New Start in Life; To Care for Dependent, Orphaned and Neglected Children; To Aid Poor Mothers and Sick and Helpless Babies.
