Sho leaves Thursday for Spring fiold, whoro she will visit- other rela tives Gaibe DeJardin, former assistant cashier in the Stayton State bank, was visiting friends here the past few days Ho has just returned from overseas, and says he has seen considerable coun try since leaving this place. Leltoy Steward, who has been in the army service, has been discharged and is at the homo of his parents east or town Merta and Laurence Siegmund of Fern Eidge are spending a few days at the u. A. Luthy home. L. L. Thomas, a former Stayton boy, hut who has been conducting a music store in .Marshfield for- some tune, has been elected president of the Business Men 's club in that. city. v : Fred Rock, who has conducted a cigar store and 'billiard hall here for some time, has sold his busiinesg to Joe Peiser. The store will be conducted by John Pieser, Jr., and Joe will continue buying livo stock. What Mr. Eock will .do in the future he has not decided. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Starr spent several days this week in Portland During their absence the store was in chai go of Mrs Goode Clarence, A orris and Marion Hunt, sons of J. T Hunt, of Sublimity, have purchased the Joa Hendricks place, formerly tho Linie Hunt farm, near their own home northeast of Sublim ity The S. P. company is well along in the work of 'building a tunnel on the C. & E. railroad through what is known as Kiphart s .'bluff, cast of Kingston. The road has been running along the side of this bluff but hist year a slide occurred, and tho prospect that unless some other measures were taken the rails would 4e crowded off the Iblnff into the river mado this im provement nreeswy. The tunnet is said to be 175 feet long. Norwood Eskew, a former Stayton fcoy, has 'been in town the past few days. He was in the army, and was for a king time sick in a hospital. Eudoljih Kusy has sold his farm of about 150 acres on the West Stayton road a mile east of here to Joe Hend ricks, who recently sold his place to the Hunt brothers. Mr. Kusy expects to visit relatives in the east for'a short time and then will probably go to Cal ifornia, where he has some hind. We understand that the price paid was 13,750 Mr and Mrs J E Sloper expect to leave tho first of Mareh for California, whero they will remain for some time. Mrs J B Fawk of Rickrcall, is vis iting at the homo of her suiter, Mrs J M. Kin go.
