IlARVEYViULSWANTS OmCE mPORTLAKD House Favors This Removal Of Slate Insurance Com Eissioners Office. - The entering wedge in removing certain state house duties from the capital city to Portland was - takes in th hoase this morning and the Mar ion delegation with the -exceptioa of Mr. Hughes, who was not present, vot ed in favor of permitting the removal. The b 11 came up from Mr. Martin of Marion county, chairman of the in surance committee, permitting Mr. Wells, commissioner of insurance to open an office in Portland and to main tain an office there. The argument was made that it was for the convenience of the public, -Ms Martin spoke in favor of es tablishing a blanch office for the con missioner in, Portland, claiming that the entire insurance committee believed in dividing the offico and permitting Mr. Wells to maintain Portland offices. C. E. Woodson of Heppner was in clined to look with disfavor on this en tering wedge of dividing the state of fices. He thought it was a ball prece dent and might be followed by others who might wish to establish quarters in Portland. The argument' in5 favor of allowing the Insurance Commissioner to maintain a Portland office was that fully two thirds of the commissioner's business was with Portland firms. Representa tives from counties along the Calumbia river also supported Mr. Martin's bill, saying it was a lot of trouble for them to come to Salem when , it would be much more convenient to have the commissioner's office in Portland.
