An un usual light run of receipts for tho early part of tho week ha featured the ship ments to tho Portland Union stock yards for tho last two days when 600 head of cattle. 13 calves, 2530 hogs, 1020 sheep a total of 48 cars e com pared with 106 cars for tho first two days of last week. Trading opened on Monday morning in the cu'ttlo section with considerable briskness with a fair demand and priceB about holding their own. N. K, West Steer. of Haines, Ore., disppsed of a batch of steers at $13.60, a rather high quo tation for tho average run of the day's business. Most 0 f the cattle on the market were of a medium grade and brought corresponding prices. By aft ernoon there wag vory littlo loft in the yards, a very good indication that the butchers and packers will soon again bo buying in their old time form. The only feature of the cattle market the past two days have beon the light run of receipts and the activity and inter est in what tho market had to offer. Steers are in fair demand with a good deal of stuff moving atound $11 to $12. The cow market ie about holding steady and calves aro bringing $913. For the past week trading around tho hog scales has been slow and drag- gy. Most of the sule9 nave been made at top quotation of $17 with the bulk moving at $16.80. Thig week's hog market to date seems to indicate a rep etition of sWino market of the past ten days for the amo prices have been quoted as mentioned above with a weak market from today's trading seems .to offer no immediate relief. The sheep market ig strong with but little to offer. J. W. Chandler of Un ion Junction yesterday received $14.50 for a batch of lambs. This quotation has held good for the past week with a very limited supply in all grades, Cattle quotations: Markot steady; best steers, $12.50(??13.25: good to choice steers, $1112.50; medium lo good steers, $9.50(511; fair to good stocrs, $3.50(59.50; common to fair steers, $7.50(8)8.50; choice cows and heifers, $9.25(5)10.23; good to choice cows and heifers, $8.7i9.75; medium to goml cows and heifers, $7.50(5)8.50; fair to medium cows and heifers, $3.75 (S6.75; canncrs, $3(5)3; bulls, $6ff9; calves, $913; stoikcrg and feeders, $7(5)9.
