of Salem has, by ordinance No. 1569,
levied an assessment upon lot 7 in
block 13 of Highland avenuo addition
to the city of Salem, Oregon, owned
or Tou, in tlhe sum of $82.25 for the
eost of constructing a cement concrete
sidewalk on the north side of High
land avenue in front of and abutting
upon said lot. Said assessment wu en
tered in the minor lien docket of the
city of Salem on the 13th. day of De
cember, 1918, a charge and lien
against said lot, and. the same is now
due aad payable to the city treasurer.

notice is served upon you by publica
tion thereof for ten days in the Daily

Military Ball Christinas Eve
An informal military ball to be gives
by Company M, Oregon National
Uuard is announced for Christmas eve.
The event will be military in char
aster and it is the desire of the pro
moters that every one who has at any
time served the country shall attend is
uniform.
Announcement is made that no ex
pense will be spare din the matter of
music and decorations. The orchestra
will consist of seven pieces.
The executive committee in eharge
of the ball includes Capt. Leroy Hew
lett and Lieutenants Srhulta and Rice.

Accident To Bicycle
There is one messenger boy who is
already a philosopher.
This morninsr his bicycle was at Its
usual place on the curbing, in front of
the western Union office. About that
time a man in a Buick happened to
have need for sbmo space for parking
his car and regardless of the bicycle,
backed the car into the wheel. Then
stepping out of his car he came around
to the bicyclo, gave it a kick and then
got into his car and drove off.
"Oh, well," remarked tbo messen
ger, ''that will cost me about $4.00
for repairs. "
The license number on the auto that
backed into the boy's wheel is 7170
and tbo records of the office of- the
secretary of state, automobile depart
ment show that the car carries a li
cense in the name of a Mr. Bascy liv
ing on South Capital street.

Lieutenant Kenneth Moores is borne
from Texas for the holidays. He is
a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Moores and
brother of Lieutenant Ralph D. Moore
Lieutenant Moores had just passed all
his examinations to go into active ser
vice in the flying eorps in France when
the armistice was signed. He enlisted
shortly after war was declared while
attending the University of Oregon.
