It might be well for those who have
automobiles In the city to lock them
securely this evening, as five of the 13
boys Vfho escaped last night from the
reform school are still at large and
every one of them knows how to drive
In the first ect away, one of. the boys
lost his companions and eamo back to
the school. After escaping, most of the
bovs, all drossed in the regulation khaki
uniforms, headed direct for Salem. Five
succeeded in finding an auto and were
driving towards Portland when stop
ped 'by Sheriff W. 1. Needham. It is
thought tho five who have not been
captured are somewhere in tle vicin
ity of Salem waiting an opportunity
to help themselves to cars with which
to make their get-a-way. The leader
of the boys is named Calhoun who
was picked up in Salem a few months
ago by Sheriff Needhnm. The boy had
stolen a Dodge car in Portland and was
on his way south at the timo of his
nrrect.
