WALLACE DIB EASTERN HOSPITAL Prominent Salem Woman Fails oT Rally From Re cent Operation. Mrs. R. S. Wallace, prominent in all church and social welfare work in the city died Monday evening at a hospital in Sewickley, Pa., according to word received in the -ity last night. Death followed an operation for obstruction of the bowels. About four weeks ago Mrs. Wallace went east to visit her sister, Mrs. B. Trimble, at Sewickley and her daugh ter, Mrs. W. S. Lambie, of Schenecta dy, N. Y. A telegram to frieads in Salem last week announced that she had been taken to a hospital and that she had successfully withstood the op eration.' Mrs. Wallace was chairman of the physical department of the Y. W. O. A. and member of the board. She gave much of her time to the work of tho Red Cross and in personally caring for invalids and in nerpmg those in need of assistance- Her husband, R. S. Wallace, was the founder of ttio Capital National bank and owner of the old Salem water com pany, now known" as the Salem Water, Light and Power company. Ho was al so a pioneer in .the fruit industry- own ing the famous Wallace orchard in Polk county. She is survived by two children, Paul B.
