border. She is now at Yuma, Arizona

LARVO At the Salem hosp'tal, Sept.
20, 1918, Charles Larvou, at the age
of 36 years.
While working for the Silver Falls
Lumber company last Thursday he fell
under a moving engine and suffered
an injury of the left leg. He was at
once brought to Salem where it was
found necessary to amputate the leg.
He did not survive the operation.
A brother, A. Larvon, is in the eity
and will accompany the body to Port
land where burial will take place Mon
day. MOORE In the city Sept. 19, 1918,
William D. Moore at the age of 60
years.
His son from Corvallis is in the city
and will accompany the body to Rose
burg for burial.
REYNOLDS At tho homo of his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Reynolds,
9b0 Broadway, Saturday morning
Sept. 21, 1918, Willis M. Reynolds, at
the age of 26 years.
Besides his parents he is survived
by three sisters end one 'brother: Mrs.
Bert Dennis, formerly Salein but
now of Portland, Mrs. May Nichols of
Portland, Mrs. Hallis Cormin of Leba
non and Dr. C. W. Reynolds of Berke
ley, Cal.
Tho funeral services will be hold at
the chapel of Webb & Clough Sunday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and will be
conducted by the Rev. A. F. Laccy of
the Jason Lee Memorial church. Bur
ial will be in the Beuna Vista cemetery
Mr. Reynolds had been in failing
health for the past two years.
Tom C. Wood, who is attached to the
battleship Connecticut, is home for a
few days' vacation. He enlisted in the
service May 17, 1917 and for the past
year has been seeing service on tho
Connecticut in Atlantic waters. Ho is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wood,
743 North Church street.
Mrs. E. E. Fisher announced at the
Red Cross meeting that practically all
auxiliaries in both counties had ro-nr-
ganized and wore ready for the fall and
winter campaign. Borne time ago tho
Mt. Angel auxiliary announced that it
would not re-organize, but it is under
stood this action hag been reconsidered.

sued this morning, appears the name of
S. R. Upton, Salem, Oregon, who is
reported wounded.

Elizabeth Lamb, executrix of the last
will and testament of Lorenzo Whit
lock, petitioned the court for an order
allowing her to sell a one tenth inter
est in certain lands. The court ordered
that a citation be issued to the devises
in tho will commanding them to appear
Nov. 6, and show cause why the peti
tion should not be granted.

Senator Sam M. Garland of Lebanon
is in the city attending to legal mat
ters. He reports that Lebanon has been
holding 'some fine patriotic meetings
and that the city will easily raise its
quota as it always has for each liberty
loan. Peoplo up his way have forgotten
all about politics, Senator Garland
says, and one hears nothing but liberty
loan and war talk.

give two lectures daily in the auditor
ium, new pavilion at tho fair ground.

After serving 18 days as speed cop,
W. D. Allbright resigned today and
was succeeded by W. A. Chittick. Mr.
Allbright feels he did some good work
for the city but the salary wasn 't quito
attractive enough. Ho is now driving
a taxi.

partment suffered a sprained ankle last
evening while investigating the rob
bery of tho D. A. White & Son store on
State street.

ies. Here's the first. O. F. Fry nays
that in the Eola hills four miles west
of Salem a rattle snake was killed that
measured 38 incrcs and had five rat
tles and a button. To prove his story,
he brought the snake to Salem,

versity is undergoing several repairs
in anticipation of the large number
of students who will enroll with the
staudents' army training corps. The
Dasement i8 being cemented this week
and tho other parts of the building
prepared for mess halls and kitchen.
No word has officially been received
as to what the war department will do
regarding barracks.

every household was judged by the
food administration card prominently
displayed in a window facing tho street
it hag been suggested that the same
will apply to a household as to wheth
er it is showing one of the honor emb
lem fourth liberty loan cards, .hvery
house in which thero is some one who
has subscribed for a fourth liberty loan
bond is entitled to display one of these
window cards. A house in which no one
has subscribed will soon stand out
rather prominent and likely to attract
attention.

Dean George H. Alden of Willamette
university is home from a business trip
of seven weeks in the interest of tht
university. He stopped at about 50
towns along tho upper Columbia as far
as Pasco and Walla Walla and in the
Palouse country. He also visited Yak
ima, Ellcnsburg, Wcnatchee and Seat
tle. He reports that he found great in
terest in the students' army training
corps everywhere and many young men
gpoKe favorably of attending Willam
ette. Whitworth college at Spokane has
been disbanded and a number of its
students will come to Willamette.
