Dr Carl Gregg Doney Speaks At Monmouth (Capital Journal Special Service) Monmouth Or., Aug 6. Dr. Carl Gregg Doney, president of Willamette University gave a splendid address, at the Normal Tuesday afternoon. The in formation, coming from one so recent ly at the front in France, was-doubly interesting and of much value to stud ents and citizens who were fortunate enough to hear him. On Thursday tho last chapel exer cises of the summer session were held. The principal address was given bvl Superintendent Churchill who spoke on the subject "The School Work in Higher Educational Institutions." Songs were sung by groups of students and all Tejoiced- at tho close of school and the thought of the home going and vacation. Most of the students left on the 4:15 train. Miss Dintus left Thursday afternoon for her homo in Indiana. Miss Valck goes to visit her folks in 1'ortland. Salem has contributed generously to the summer population of Newport this season. Motorists from the capital city make the trip without difficulty in a day and an additional pleasure is added to the vacation trip when tho journey can bo made in an auto, which can bo used for much pleasuring upon arrival at Nowport. Colonel Hofer of Salom, drove in the middle of tho week to open his Agato beach cottage for his family, who will arrive later in the week. Colonel lioter, with his usual originality made tho trip to Newport with the same horse and buggy that he has used for a similar purpose for some tiftecn years.
