Commence bout week at the Oregon Normal evhool began on Saturday at 8:30 a. m. when President and Mrs. Ackerman entertained the hundred and fifty eight seniors at breakfast at the dor mitory. On Saturday afternoon, Mr. ' llttnian, head of the department of rural schools, held the annual picnic for the three rural centers, which have done eueh excollent wcrk' during the aat year in the training of teaehtrs for rural schools: Mountain View, Oak. 1'oint and Elking schools were all rep resented in the excellent program giv en in !is impel at two p. nn. Supt. Crowley and Supervisor Moore, were present and spoko in ibehalf of Polk county, Supt. Cannon for Benton coun ty, H. C. Seymour for the Agricultural rollege. Asst. Supt. E. P. Carleton and ("resident Ackerman also addressed the meeting, after which Mr. Pittmau warded the flog. On Saturday night, in the gymna sium occurred the junior prom, which was well attended, and as usual a very n,joyailde affair. Sunday evening at 8 -p; m. the bacca laureate service was given in tho chap el and enjoyed by a large congrega tion. The public is invited to at tend this, as well as many of the other attractions of commencement week this vear as with the remodeling of the building, there is ample room in the chapel for all who care to attend. N. S. and mayor of Mon mouth, left Wednesday for Portland, thence to -New York to report for Y. M. C. In these capacities at least, will Mr. Ostein be greatly missed by students and fellow citizens. Grace Lnsk Sentenced to Nineteen Years Waukesha, Wis., June 18. Grace Lusk at 4:10 p. m'. was sentenced to 19 years in tho state- penitentiary at Wanjnin .for the murder of Mrs. Mary Newman Roberts, Jume 21, 1917. She fainted but rallied quickly. She was found sane by Judge Martin Leuck this afternoon and two motions for a new trial interposed by the de fence ware overruled and denied. Tho court then heard arguments on WMitenee. ' . "".
