adding a 25 mile fighting area to the

On the Oise- front, the French con
tinued to progress slightly on the wesl
and hold the Germans in the center,
while'- the enemy- made further pro
gress on the east, it was indicated by
last night's official statements.
The French war office reported fur
ther progress in the region of Bclloy
wood and St. Maur, with the capture of
four hundred additional prisoners and
a quantity of material. There was no
change on the front from St. 'Maur to
Antheuil.
Official . admiseioa of retirement
from the sharp Noyon salient was
made in the Fans communique, xne
French line was voluntarily withdrawn
on Monday to the line of Bailly and
Tracy-Le-Val, joining the Marne bat
tlo front east of Naiupcel. This repre
sents a retirement to a maximum depth
of about four miles.
North of the Marne allied troops oc
cupied Montecourt, two miles south
west of Chateau-Thierry and the
southern portion of Bussaries, seven
miles northwest of Chateau-Thierry.
(It is in this region that, the Amer
ican marines and the Ninth and Twen
ty third United States infantry are
fighting.) -
Tho German war office described
the JFrench evacuation of the Noyon
salient as having been "forced" by
loss of tho heights southwest of Noy
on. Thirteen thousand additional pris
oners are claimed.
Referring to the fighting north of
tho Marne, Berlin said: "Obstinately
and regardless of sacrifices, the enemy
kept up his vain attacks northwest
of Chateau-Thierry. Several assaults
were broke down with sanguinary
losses." '
Field Marshal Haig reported a suc
cessful raid near Loere, on the Flan
ders front, by French troops last night.
The Italian war office reported suc
cessf ul patrol operations and the re
pulse of Austrian raids,

London, June 13 Successful local
operations in Flanders and a British
raid near Arras1 were reported by
Field Marshal Haig today.
"Local .operations were- conducted
successfully last nighfc southwest of
Meris and east of Diekobusch lake,"
the statement said.

the flags by little girls were features

For the purpose of trying to make)
the irrigation service more satisfac
tory the ciity will be divided into twe
districts so that each district will get
the full service of the plant upon the
day it irrigates.
The plan is to have the houses whicll
bear even numbers on the streets irri-
crate onlv on Monday. Wednesday. Fri
day and Sunday, and the houses wlich
bear odd numbers on the street irri
gate only on Tuesday, Thursday, Sat
urday and Sunday. This plan will per
mit every house to irrigate four day
out of each week.
