are so confident that, having been given
the choice of a small immediate Ameri

Osrman Situation Critical
"The German commander, seeing how
nearly he is delivering himself to the al
lied reserve, has been compelled to ac
cept temporary failure and call a bait.
His position is tactically eiposcd in
two dangerous salients on water-logged
ground. His countrymen are dangeroiu

for his failure to terminate their suffer
ings. His allies are on the verge of
quarreling and daily exhibit their grow

"His reserve have nearly reached
complete exhaustion. Those of the Franco-British

American preparations develop. The
time draws closer when defeat is inevit

IrWool Dress Goods I
Hils should be of interest to every woman and impel her to choose at least one
more dress before these Woolens become a mere memory.
Real Wool Goods are almost impossible to get from the mills
to say nothing of the slim assortment. Formerly, the choosing
of colors, patterns and qua lities was mostly a matter of taste
now the selections from the mills have simmered down to less
than one-tenth their former assortments. Furthermore the
mills are operating on nearly 100 per cent advance in prices.
Now wr are calling your attention to the GOOD OLD
VALUES that can not "come back" when sold out. At a not
far distant time you'll think of these splendid Tailor Serges,
Suiting Dress Serges in black, ravy and other colors. Also
Novelty Stripes and Plaids in excellent variety Then there are

DOOH3 OF HELL OPENED
By Fred a Ferguson
With the Americans in Pieardy, May
12. Tonight in Ilcardy the doors of
hell seemed literally opened. Scheeeh
ing demons of death filled the air.
Pounding) guns jarred the arth as if
alt the evil forces below were endeav
oring ta breai through. The flare of
the euns and the flash and roar of
bursting shells appeared like great
fires sweeping the rolling fields.
With the setting of the sun there
was no rest. Then wagons, loaded with
ammunition and supplies, started for
the front. Patrols crept across No Mans
Land. The artillery turned night into
a time of terror and punishment.
The United Press billet is just back
of the front. Apple trees are in bloom
everywhere. Lilacs arid .daisies grow
outside the door. At Tusk a nightin
gale perched near the window and
started its evening song. But beyond
the lilacs aoid daisies and over the
nightingale's song thundered the son?
of war.

QUALITY HEADQUARTERS
Where Bishop AO-Wool CIctLes Are Sold
Reliable Merchandise--
Under ordinary conditions we would be advertising the new styles. .This
year we are calling special attention to quality. Wool is 65c per pound;
labor is very high. The government is taking the larger part of the out-put
of all woolen mills. This makes prices very high. It requires a merchant of
experience and foresight to supply reliable merchandise at a reasonable
.price.
Our many years of manufacturing experience and our connection with the
woolen mills has been of great advantage to us. We have the largest assort
ment of goods we have ever had and the prices are exceptionally low under
the conditions. Many articles are sold for less than we can replace them
from the manufacturer. -
Another important thing we are experiencing in woolen goods ar.d will
honestly tell you if you are buying an all wool suit or one made of wool
substitutes. '
