Camouflaging submarine tolls is becoming increasingly more difficult for the German admiral ty according to reports from the British war office received today. From a monthly exaggeration of 46 per cent a year ago, the German admir alty boosted its sinkings by 113 per cent in January. As the actual sink ings decreased, the exaggerations in creased, the reports show. German papers, carrying official re ports, declared that the underseas craft destroyed moro than 12,000,000 tons of the world s shipping during the past 12 months. British official figures show half that amount. The average exag geration of tho German admiralty and press during the past year, was 46 per cent. Last month actual losses were 340. 000 tons; German claims 080,000 tons. November, actual losses, 295,000 tons; German claims 60i),000 tons; December, actual losses 390,000 tons: German claim 705,000 tons; January actual sinkings 295,000 tons; German claims, 630,006 tons. The highest point in sinkings since Germany s unrestricted campaign began was 870,000 tons. The Teuton admiral ty claimed destruction of 1,900,000 tons the same month. The lowest month probably will be April, the submarines having sunk but 81,600 thus far this mouth.' For the last quarter of the year ending Febru ary 1, the world's losses were 980,000 tons, compared with a loss of 2,010,- 000 for the first throe montnu of Ger man 's campaign.
