Deep-Seated Disease That Can
not Be Reached 'by Local
Treatment.
When yon hawk and spit until you
almost strangle in an effort to get
.your breath, because your air-pas
sages are all choked up with Catarrh,
and your condition grows worse from
day to day, you are about ready to
realize that Catarrh is by no means a
simple ailment.
If you have had the disease for any
jengia 01 time, you nave oouDUess
used enough treatment to convince
you that you will not be able to find
any lasting relief from the remedies
that are so generally relied upon.
Others who have been afflicted with
Catarrh have used atomizers and
eprays, ointments, salves, jellies and
ether local applications by the whole,
cale, without making the slightest
progress toward a cure.
You are doomed to the same disap
pointment, if you rely upon the same
misdirected methods of treating this
-disease, for Catarrh is too stubborn
and deep-seated to be reached by
medicated applications which are ap
plied only to the surface.

Camp Lewis, American Lake, Wash.,

"Boss" of the camp's "conscientious

believe all wars wrong and that it is
better to scrub floors and wash windows
than to learn tho art of arms. Under
the president's decree they have been
transferred to the medical corps and
ulaved in Barracks Mo. 4 of the base

"They are a willing bunch" said
Sergeant O'Connor. "Tney wont fight,
but they surely can work."
O'Connor sticks up for his objectors.
He. holds it is no different- from any
other organization. Just the same, it is a
"unique" crew.
In Bouie barracks, the air is some
times blue with tobacco smoke and
crackles with high power language. Not
so in Barracks 4. Only a lew oi me

Something more than an evening
of genuine pleasure land distinctive
mirth, inspired by the subtle and
world famous humor of Harry Lauder,
I is in store for the Salem folk who
will hear and see the celebrated Scotch
I comedian tonight at Portland, where
he appears at the iieiiig theater.
Unusual interest is attached to this
performance, not only because this is
Harry Lauder's farewell tour, but al
so because ho has recently lost his

turned over his entire fortune of hun

he has made during his career on the

the war.
' His reputation of possessing in a
marked degree tho renowned Scotch
thrift, stands Harry Lauder in good
stead now, when his very savings are
going so far to alleviate suffering and
to promote efficiency in varied relief;
