Some time ago Frank Shildo while em ployed by the Northwest Steel company of Portland, met with an accident by which one of his hands was cut off. He bad a wife and two children, and com ing under the provisions of the law was allowed by the commission temporarily $35 a month, this to be reduced to $25 on. He has made all kinds of a nui r'.nce of himself to the commission, for several months and now passes up the problem aforesaid. It seems he has been convicted of arson in Portland, in the burning of a rented house for the purpose of collecting the insurance on his household goods. He was to have been sentenced this morning, and may have been, but no word has been re ceived concerning this. Owing to his maimed condition and having a fam ily it is at least probable he will be paroled, and this may simplify the prob lem which is "can a man doing time in the state prison be at the same time a recipient of aid from the state!"
