ceivcrt today by Carl Onthank, secre
tary to President P. L- Campbell, tells
of the shortage of atolacco in France,

Mr. MeCIure 's letter is dated August

and who are to be sent across the wa
ter with the popular brands of tobac

Daily Capital Journal is collecting a
fund for the purchase of a large num
ber of packages of "smokes," furn
ished by the American Tobacco com
pany at actual cost.
Jiiuny contributions huve been re
ceived nt the office of the Capital
Journal since the first ' announcement
was made of the opening of the fund.
The uanics of all contributors will bo
writ tan on stamped postcards which
will be sent with the packages of to
bacco to the soldiers so that tho re
cipients may thank the donors if they
feel that way, and it is a safe bet that
90 out of 100 will show their apprecia
tion by writing.
One of the contributors to the fund
yesterday was a woman, who said slia
did not. care to give her mime, but
bIio wanted to make our 'Sammies"
as happy as possible. Another coutrilv
utor was a farmer, who has relatives
in the service. There were a number of
others who seemed glad to help in.
