Weekly Report of Union Stock' Yard . North Portland, Ore., July 17. The receipts at the Portland Union Stock Yardii yesterday were the heaviest since December 4, li10. The run of cattle totaled 2.000 including carload lots with fewer tail end steers than usual and a heavier per cent bf fairly good cattle. The run of stockers and fee'ders was smnll and of a better quality than the corresponding type of stock last week. There were 1,750 hogs and only 150 sheep offered. Cattlo. The conditions at the opening of the market were generally slow with an in clination ou the part of buyers to con tinue the decline which Bet in Inst week. There was a brisk demand for really good beef steers, and the best offered were taken readily at 10 cents. The highest lond sale was w.DO or do cents ! lower than the best carload sale of the previous week. The general indications are for a 25 cent ,cut in price of good beef steers. Common to medium steers are in less demand and are suffering a depreciation Of 50 cents from last week's open market. Cows and heifers are going at on ! .... ....o...r... K . week as there is a gyod supply of com- mon-s with only a few loads of really good cows. Bulls continue steady at a decline of 25 to 35 cents and calves ornithine steady. The Burkhalter family have moved back to Liberty for the berry season. Falls City Lumber Ms Have Started Up (Capital Journal Special Service) Falls City, July 18. Tho Falls City Lumber company's saw mill started Tuesday after a shutdown of two weeks for repairs on boilers and engines. The planer had been running every day while the saw mill was shut down. The company is doing a very satisfactory business, having orders ahead now that will keep them busy for the next ten months. Mrs. J. C. Proebtvl of Portland and Dr. M. A. Irwin of Los Angeles, Cal., are visiting their brother and family, 11. A. Bowman. Dr. Jrwin has been for a number of years a missionary to Hiam Mr. and Mrs. .1. 8. Powell, in com pany with twenty friends went to Beav er Creek, ner.r rorvallis, last Sunday to visit the old home. They spread their dinner under a walnut tree that Mr. Powell planted imly years ago, it is over four feel in diameter. Rev. A. P. Hanson and family have arrived from Montana. An old fashioned camp meeting is being held in this city, beginning July 18 and las.inij for ten days. Prof. Allen of the Oregon Agricul tural college will give a free illstration lecture at the Gem theatre July 17 on hog raising. All the boys and gills of the Falls City Pig club are particularly urged to attend. At tins tunc arrange ments will be made to effect a perma nent organization. Madeline, the two year old daughter of Ida Brock, of this city, met death by drowning in a ten gallon crock Tuesday afternoon. Her-mother missed her and on lookin? for her found her with her head in the jar, where she had probably tried to reach the water to play in.
