Tho Cardinals and Hi avos .performed tile aame stunt, each winning, a quintet of game. In the case of the Cardinals it may be an exhibition of early season "pep" but with the rtrnves it is differ- out. After succumbing to the Giants in the opening series they came to New York and so far have dumped the fa vorites for one fnll out of two starts. They are carded for another crack at McGraw today. l'hilailelphia turned up with the poor est record of the week in tho National league, winning only one -and losing five. The champion Dodgers won two and lost four. Pitching fragility seems to have de scended on Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Neither of these clubs, each given a chance ia the race, has stnrtel slipping because of tbis defect. The White Sox are running along early season predictions and start this week with five victories and one defeat back of them for the last six days. The Med Sox were second with four won and one lost. The Senators brought up the rear in the American league, winning only one gtitne and dropping four. The White Sox- and lied Hox seem to have, so far, tho only stable hurling staffs in the American league. The others have shown decideil erratic ten dencies. Will Box in Portland. 'Tho deportations began in October tho Ktupe, at Ghent and at Bruges. The policy spread. Tho rich industrial districts of llaihaut, the mines and steel works about, the Charleroi were next attacked, now they are seizing men in Irabant, even in Brussels, despite some indications and even predictions of the civil authorities thnt the policy was about to be abandoned. The men, shivering from cold and tear, the parting 'from weeping wives and children, tho barbarities of brutal I hlans, all this made the scene a piti able and distressing one. Brutal Stories Borne Out. "I am constantly in receipt of reports from all over Belgium that tend to bear out the stories oue constantly hears of brutality and cruelty. A number of men sent back to Mons nro said to be in a dying condition, many of thorn tubercular.
