Mc Adams, iSalem's local astron omer, made this announcement as he un limbered his telescope and brought out his charts to show what might be seen by those who take a look. o "Way not the aster for the official flower of Salem f" asks a "constant reader. " Tho information is given that the aster is grown in Salem perhaps as abundantly as any other flower, yet it has failed to be named in the voting contest put on by the Salem Floral so ciety, which closes next Wednesday ev ening. The river rose yesterday one and seven-tenths feet, bringing the water up to the 6.8 foot mark above low water. This is a rise of three aud one-half feet during the past five days. Yesterday there was a rainfall of .48 of an inch. During tho past four days there has ap parently been some heavy rains, but the official record at the O. C. T. dock -says that the rainfall for these four rainy days has amounted to only 1.0(5 inches The range of temperature yesterdav was from 46 to 34. Walter A.
