cial club, Y. M. C. A. and Y. W. C. A.
are all working hard to provide enter

people that ever met in Salem.
The program commenced this morn
ing with the registration ol the dele
gates, followed by addresses by Clin
ton Ostrauder and Governor Witby
combe. Luncheon was served at the
Christian church at noon, after which
the Bible study wa9 conducted under
the leadership of Dr. W. P. White. The
"Let's Go" program followed this,
with talks from many of the delegates.
Daniel A. Poling, associate president
of the National Christian Endeavor so
ciety, arrived this morning, ahead of
his special train, which was some hours
late. The first train was on time, ar
riving at ten o clock. This was the
"Louella S. Dyer" special, coining
from Portland. It brought seventy five
delegates from that city. Following
this, the special trains and cars came
in all morning. When the Daniel Poling
special came in, it brought some 150
delegates from the southern part of
the state.
Four banquets have been prepared for
the rereption ot the guests, which will
be held at 6:30 Saturday evening, one
at the Methodist church, one at the
Congregation, one at the Baptist, spe

at the Evangelical church, featuring
missions.
The great meeting will be this even

keynote address at the Christinii chiuvh

The visitors were given a sight see

conducted by the various members of
the local societies,
The feature of this afternoon was the

of thirty minute and a halt talks by
thirtv delegates. Several of the topics
which were discussed under this head

Doctor Poling stated this afternoon

On the whole the contest was one of

Another factor that c vises the hesi-l

the president's next movie.
The outstanding features of the
stock market were the weakness in the
shipping and munitions shares. It is i
estimated that the withdrawal of the
American line ships from their sclied-!

power of the International Mercantile!
Marine company. The common stock
of that company lost over.a point and'

Atlantic Gulf and West Indies and
