i The senate passed one bill this morn
'ing after a spirited debate with Senator
Gill for and Senator Dimick against it
It was Senator Gill's bill regarding fish
ing on the Willamette river establishing
the bounds within which net fishermen
I could not work, and fixing the number

said now the fish ladders were inade
quate, and as a result the salmon gath

the season opened the 'fishermen from

mon, cleaning them out in a few days,
and then returning to their homes down
the river. He stated the Willamette was
now the main stream used by the sal
mon for breeding. The Umatilla and
other streams east of the mountains had
been so diverted by irrigationists that
they were no longer used by the salmon

day to oppose any war measures. The

earned his re-election by keeping us out
