Action Taken Regarding
Salem Hospital Matter
On account of the alleged dilly dal
lying of the Salem Hospital associa
tion regarding the vacating of the
property which was deeded to the state
and for which the sum of 25,000 was
to be paid, Secretary of Statet Olcott
at the meeting of the board of control
Saturday afternoon proposed a resolu
tion authorizing the hoard to take
steps to secure the property for the
State hospital which is in need of room
for kstw buildings. This resolution was

University Notes
Now that exaiuations are over and
the registration for the second semester
nearly completed, student body interests
are again centered on the manifold ac
tivities of college life. Among 1he
events that will be featured in the near
future are the basketball game with the
University of Washington, Wednesday
evening, the first glee club concert of
the season will be given at Jefferson
on the same date. On February 13 the
Ladies' tilee club will present n pro
gram in the chapel- Next Saturday will
Occur the dual debate with Pacific uni
versity. Award day has been definite
ly scheduled for the 22d. Class atten
tion is invited on the annual freshman
glee contest, and ambitious poets are
hard at work to produce the winning
song.
Although Professor John O. Hall,
head of the sociology department, is
the busiest man on tlie cninpus, it is
definitely stated that he will give his
lecture, " Remedies Against Poverty,"
iu the chapel. February 12. For the past
tno weeks Dr. Hill has been much in
demand by various state legislative
committees. His lecture next Monday

migration bill, vetoed once by
Cleveland, once by Taft and
twice by President Wilson, to
day passed the senate by the
necessary margin to make it a

The vote was 62 to 19.
