Wheat Market Nervous Showing Sharp Gains Chicago, Jan. 12. The wheat market was nervous today, showing sharp gains at the opening. The reply of the allies indicating that there was no hope for peace in the near future was the influ ence. There was heavy realizing on the ad vance from outside accounts and prices broke sharply before support was en countered, .May wheat opened up 2 1-2. then lost 4 .'1-4, going to $1.88 5-S. July opened up I 3i8, losing .'1 cents, going to $1,49 .1-2. September opened up 1 1-8, subsequently losing I) 1-8, going to 11.86 3-8. Corn had a firmer tone at the open ing, but followed wheat down later, May corn opened up 1 l-S, then lost the same, going to OS 3-8, July opened up 12. then lost I, going to 07 1-4. Attorney Cock ran Countered this move by the state by requesting the release of all papers seized in the "Hlast" raid. It was at this juncture that Miss Fitzgerald took the stand. During her examination by Cunhae, she called the latter a liar. JudgO Griffin adjourned court until Monday without ruling on the disputed point as to possession of the seized let ters. McPherson resides at Springfield, but it is alleged that the crime was committed in this county. 0 When one cannot attend an opera and see and hear Caruso, the next best thing is to hear him and other famous opera stars, via the Vietralo route. Tonight at the public library, to which of course, there is no admission charge, the Italian opera "Pagliacci" will be giv en on a Vietralo furnished bv the George C. Will music house. Mr. Will has also loaned the records from the opera. As the records arc played, Mrs. Anna Rodgers Pish will tell the story of the opera and explain the special sig nificance of each number. Ministers Indignant at Prayer Interruption Ministers of Salem arc highly in dignant over the fact that the sergcant-at-arms of the senate took upon him self to warn Dr. Talbot, head of the Kimball college of Theology, during the offering of prayer Thursday morn ing in the senate chamber, by pulling nt his coat-tail, that he was prayig too long.
