Field Deputies Held Need Special effort will be made to secure sufficient appropriation to employ field deputies to assist the state health of ficer in extension work, the state health officer has combined the Work of the state bacteriologist with his own office eliminating the former office and ex pense. Health Officer Roberg spent much of his time during the past sum mer driving about the state in an auto mobile in extension work, lie visited practically all of the 248 registration districts of the state. A legislative committee composed of Drs. Andrew C. Smith, E. A. fierce and I). N, Roberg of Portland and W, B. Morse of Salem was appointed to work out proposed amendments favored by the board. The annual report submitted by Dr. Roberg shows that in addition to pay ing up a deficit of $t0(0 from 191.). the board has finished the year of 191(1 with about $300 remaining, of its appro priation. Marcellus Questioned Dr. s"mith as chairman of a commit tee appointed some time ago to investi gate reports of unsanitary conditions alleged to have existed in the various camps of the Third Oregon infantry while it was on the Mexican border, asked Dr. Marcellus concerning the truth of the reports. Dr. Marcellus replied that the fact that no serious illness or death occur red among the 1200 men during the three months on the border despite the fact that the men underwent a radical change in climate and mode of life, Was evidence of the care taken to safe guard health. Court Judge Unlloway today signed the decrees in the Hubbard case. These provide for the continuance of the re ceiver, it reduces the attorneys fees from $3,000 asked to $750. It extends time of execution to November 1, 1917, the date of maturity of the note. The cancellation of the second mortgage of $10,000 held by Welsh Brothers, on the ground there was no consideration, can cellation also of the third mortgage giv en to John Bayue, for $1,500 attorneys fee, he having already received over $700 for services in connection with tho building. The court also decreed that the claim of the United States National bank for $1,200 be held as a second lien subject to the Alliance Trust mort gage. A total of approximately $17,000 in favor of Mrs. Hubbard. All the par ties gave notice of appeal excepting the TT. S. National bank.
