broke out at 3 a. in. in one of the main Jackson
business blocks of the citv wns 1 Absentee
control at 8 o'clock today after doing
damage to the amount of $250,000. Four
firemen were overcome and one of 'them
is in a serious condition as the result of
the explosion of an ammonia tank in
the basement of the Columbia grocery,
where the fire started. Several other
firemen were cilt and injured.
The building to which the flames
were confined by desperate work. on the ;
.part of firemen was in the center of the
block bounded by I and J, 7th and 8th ;
streets. It wa9 the wincipal building I
of the block, having a hotel, two :
grocery stores, a meat market and bak-
ery. j
