"Sitka" is going to help support little Ethel anil A!oi,i Wilson, whom a tragedy robbeil of their parents. When he was a poppy, "Sitka" play ed with the youniisters and then Came trouble between Frank' Wilson, the father, and the mother and the two little girls went to the Catholic orphan age. On Wednesday Wilson walked in to the. orphanage, shot his wife down and then killed himself. The children were left penniless. Today the police located "Sitka.'' Mr. Oreen was not only proud of the large size and flavor of the onions, but has become convinced that the soil in the Ironton tract is especi ally ndhpted for onions, although he bad bpcu told they would not grow. in this part of Oregon. On n tract 30 by 40 feet, he raised 14 sacks of 85 pounds each, a total of 1190 pounds, or at the rate of 572 sacks or 43520 pounds to tho acre. Cattle held in quarantine nt Kansas City stock yards are not infected with the dread foot and month disease, the department of agriculture reported officially today, but with the vessiculnr stomatitis, a dis ease "not of great economic import ance." Local quarantine will be imposed to prevent the spread of the new disease, however, it was announced, as the pres ent outbreak is the most extensive in this country. Stockmen 'were warned to watch for the disease, which affects principally horses nnd cattle. WAS AT THE GAME Seattle, nWhs., Dec. 1. While turn ing a corner, after the football game yesterday. Alfred VauFleet, ago 74, of Joliot, 111. and his soa in law, Wesley E. Walker of Seattle were seriously injured when their automobile over turned. The aged man is suffering from shock and interna! injuries and Walker suf fered n serious scalp wound. Both are still in a hospital today. Reorganization of the progressive party, with certain present well known members, includ ing George W. Perkins left out, is the purpose of an active group of party members now at work, the Evening Mail suid today. The plan calls for a meeting in St. Louis in January. John Robert Taylor, progressive stato committeeman from. Brooklyn, who is one of the sponsors of the rejuvena tion scheme, is quoted as declaring he has thousands of signgd pledges from progressives who want the reorganiza tion. To attend the eleventh annual state Older Boys' conference for western Oregon, 35 young men' from the differ ent churches of the city left this morn ing for C'orvallis. HARM RIDING WITH , GUN FORCES HIS WAY fhirteen-Year-Old Boy Sticks Pistol In Ribs of Man Who Stopped Him Harvey Ridings,' 13-year-old son of Mrs. Nettie Ridings, who is now held in the county jail on a charge of burg lary of the'o. K.- grocery, aud whose futher is in the Oregon state penitenti ary, last night escaped from the chargo of Mrs. McDaniel on Winter street, in whose charge he had been placed by Judge Bushey pending a hearing this morning, and in making his way across the Polk-Marion bridge this morning shoved a revolver, against the ribs of Frank Gibson, a Polk county farmer. and forced him to allow him to so on. Late this afternoon, he was heard of at Rickreall, Polk county, but so far has eluded the officers. Last night when Mrs. McDaniel went to the basement to get something, young Ridings went out through the window. The police were notified and began to search for him. He went to his mother's rooms at the O. K. room ing house and there, it is believed, se cured a roll ot blanKcts and the re volver. He slept somewhere last night, but only aftor he had been compelled to throw away his roll of blankets at Thirteenth and Court streets. This morning he started across the Polk-Marion bridgo and when Frank Gibson tried to stop him to talk with him, he shoved the gun in his ribs and demanded to be let alone. Then he ran on into Polk county nnd so far is still at large. His hearing, bctoro Jurtge Busnoy was to have taken place this afternoon at two o clock.
