to efefct the organization to be known
as the South Salem Men's club, devot
ed to the interests of South Salem- A
meeting will be held Friday evening at
the Friends church to effect a perman
ent organization. . To draw by-laws and
constitution, a committee was appoint
ed last night consisting of L. K. Geer,
Rev. Horace N. Aldrich, Dr. Fatrchild,
Dr. Ray Pemberton,'Dr. Kllis, Joseph
Barber and J. A. Bishop. The slogan of
the South Salem Men' club will be "A

The general opinion among lawyers is
to the effect that if the proposed bond
ing of the city iS street improvements
is to come before the voters of the city
at tho December i election, that the su
premo court will have to hurry in ren
dering its decision. The legul men say
that notices of election "must be posted
and pamphlets mniled at least 10 days
before an election and such being the
case, this must be done before Thurs
day of this week, the 21th. The eity
recorder refused to place on the ballot
the initiative measure for bonding the
eity for paving, busing his refusal
on legal grounds and mandamus pro
ceedings were brought before the su
preme court to compel him to place the
measure on the ballot for the Decem
ber 4 election.
