A FEARLESS PHYSICIAN Passengers and Crew Taken Off by Crews of Life Saving Stations Deal, Kng., Nov. 21. Lifeboat crews from the Deal and Walmer stations today succeeded in rescuing all pas sengers and members of the crew of the stranded American steamer Siberia. Tho Siberia struck the Goodwin sands late yesterday. All through the night the waves mercilessly pounded the vessel, passengers and crew taking to the bridge and- waiting for aid that lifeboat crews could not give them in the face of the mountainous seas. Lifekavers from tho Deal,.. Walmer and Kingstown stations . fought all through the night and through most of today to bridge the gap of swirling waters and take tho men and women off tho ship. Two or three times the lifeboats were capsized in the surf, sev eral lifo savers narrowly escaping drowning. Late today, .however, the Walmer crew succeeded 'in getting a line aboard tho Siberia. The American vessel was only one of half a dozen that were in dire straits for a time as a result of a tremendous blow that had swept up the channel and the Dover straits Sunday night, continuing with great violence since that time. Tho Qoodwin sands, a strip of shoal extending for nbont ten miles off tho shore of Kent and ono of tho ocean's most dangerous spots, claimed its usual quota of vessels, but the Si beria was the only vessel of sine to be driven on the treacherous sands. She stuck fast and the combers rolled over her. founded by the breakers, the big vessel sank lower and lower info the sands, until today her bridge, on wliich the two score passengers and erew had i lusccrcd, was only a little above the level of the highest wave.
