May Have Revolution
in Lower California
San Diego, Oil., Nov. 7. An nllcccd
plot to overthrow Colonel Cantu and
seize Lower California bv a new Mex
ican political party, the nationalists,
said to be a branch of the legalistns,
has been frustrated here today by fed
eral officers, who have seized a quan
tity of arms and ammunition being ship
ped through this city en route to the
border rendezvous from where the at
tack was to be made. Several eases of
ammunition nnd a wardrobe trunk in
which a number of Winchester and
Marlin rifles were packed, wrapped in
Los Angeles newspapers, are held in
the federal buildinz here.
FINAL RUSH IN JERSEY.
Jersev City, X. J., Nov. 7. There
was a final rush to the voting booths
between fivfe nad seven this evening,
when nearly a third of the ballot
wielders marked tickets. Two-thirds of
the voters had balloted up to two this
afternoon, a lull of severul hours lol
lowing. Jersey vote counting, especially in n
presidential year, is usually slow, the
final count generally not being known
until returns from many other states
are in.
SUNDAY CLOSING LAW
Editor Daily Capital Journal: Being
somewhat surprised at not seeing any
negative argument on the proposed
"Bill Repealing and Abolishing the
Sunday Closing Law," I eend a few
thoughts to the Forum. I think we Ore
gon folks have rather got our "names
up with some eastern people, for work
ing, nnd doing other strange things on
Sunday. Let us imagine Jesus going
about on joy ridges, visiting ball games,
piciure snows or meuirts, merely iw
niusemcnr, uuying una seuing, or ruuu-
ing the Sunday newspaper on that
, .
dnv!
As to the needs of the people there
are but few things that have to be ex
tra fresh for Sunday; let us be lore
handed, and make all our purchases Sat
urday and do the most of our cooking
on that day if the babies, etc., must
have fresh cow's milk or anything that
will not keep over night, let it simply
be delivered Sunday morning, almost
anything else really needed, can be de
livered the day before. What are we
coming to, as a people, to think of being
asked to surrender our nice quiet Sun
days so good for church-going, rest,
rending, etc. to go, or to see and hear
others going off on some tramp or jolli
fication, on the Lord's day, which we
are commanded to keep holy! What

Poughkeopsie, U; Y., Nov. 7.
Poughkcepsio's complete vote gave
kind of an example are we setting the
rising generation, qnd how much rest
do such recreations give to either soul
or body and how they detract from
sober thinking! Many people feel too
ousy during week days for much good
reading though it is so very abundant
how about the Christian Sabbath
which was made for the good of man
not, I believe, just for idle, hollow
pleasure, but for rest, reading, instruc
tion, prayer, worship and good deeds.
A conscience void of offence and a
peaceful heart from tho Lord make a
better foundation , for joy me thinks,
than all doubtful Efforts to havo a
"good time." If other recreation is
essential why not take it Saturday aft
ernoon, as some do with the young peo
ple! At the very longest, our time is,
oh, so short! And how we ought to
improve it not only for our own best
good, but for the well being of those
with whom we come in contact along
the way!
And after that the judgment!
