long time resident of here was stricken
with apoplexy Monday.
Minn Henrietta Denny of Sublimity
passed away Monday after a stroke of
paralysis Saturday. She was a native
daughter of Marion county having been
bora near Sublimity 37 years ago. Miss
Denny was a graduate of U. of O. and
tnught school in this county for fifteen
years after her graduation. She also
lived in Salem for a time. The funeral
services will be held nt the) Methodist
Kpiseopal church today (Wednesday)
Rev. K. B. Lockhnrt officiating.
Mrs. I'ratt, a teacher" here for the
Vast five years, now has her mother.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick, of Aumsville, living
with her. The two women spent last
Sunday at Aumsville.
Miss Vesta Marshall was indispose!
with gore throat a couple of days last
week. She is one of the teachers.
A Miss Hassett has been added to
the teaching staff of the high school.

"High Taxes" before the grange last
Saturdny-afternoon. As candidate fur
district attorney ho will get a good
vote in this section. Judge Galloway
also spoke nt the same meeting, Max
(iehlhnr hail been announced also but
did not put in an appearance.
The sore throat trouble going around
heie has afflicted a number.
The Kpworth League of this eity has
sent out invitations for a Hallowe'en
party. Jt is expected it will jirove one
of the most interesting affairs in the
social Hue of the season.
The two young sons of W. J. Hewitt
are ill at their home here.
Relatives here of Dr. Brewer of Sa
lem who passed away recently have re
ceived many expressions of sympathy.
Dr. .Brewer was well known in Stay
ton and much respected.
W. J. Hewitt nnd family visited rel

Geo. Tate has been on the sick list.
H. K. Wirth came home from Walla
Walla tho other day to visit his family
Mr. Kerry, a long tinio resident of

The Cromley Bros, sold another car

Mrs. Nellie Fergusoit lias quite a sore
foot, caused by stepping on a nail, nt
the barnyard.
Mrs. An-hio Brown has a lame foot
caused by jumping off n sled.
L L. Patterson finished gathering
his com crop. The yield was extra good.
He is drying it in the hop kilns as part
of it is n little soft.
T. W. Brunk has returned from ller
mistou where he was called to judge
stock.
The horse traders, who have been
camped near the all summer wutering
tunk, were ordered to. leave. Thev left
all right.
The Kola parent-teacher association
will give a Hallowe'en party Saturday
